ABOUT ME

Richard Compson Sater -- that's me -- retired from the U.S. Air Force after 24 years of service, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. I spent most of my career as a photojournalist, a veteran of both Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from the University of Pittsburgh, a master’s in creative writing from Purdue University, and a Ph.D. in fine arts from Ohio University.

I have at various times in my checkered career been a college professor, radio announcer, bookkeeper, bricklayer, bartender, clerk, music critic, voice actor, and window-shade salesman.

I'm a Seattle resident since 2007 and adopted my dog Drayvus last year. She's a sweetheart, and I don't know what I'd do without her now.

I have recently expanded my writing effort into screenwriting and songwriting.
